There are seven days in a week, seven colors has the rainbow and seven are the deadly sins.

"Abstracto / Abstract"

"Altar Mayor / High Altar"

"Falso Profeta en Trinidad / False Prophet in Trinity"

"Fuerza / Strenght"

Luis Toledo aka Laprisamata [hurry kills] is an Spanish artist from Madrid.
Devoted to illustration and graphic design, Luis performs elaborated collages using all kind of scanned images that then compose using digital tools. His creations involve a variety of cultural and religious elements, showing an intricate mix of symbolism and references.

"Funerales y Fiestas / Funerals and Festivals"

"Historias, Noche de verano / Stories, Summer Night"

Luis Toledo began exploring his own inquisitive realities at a very young age with his introduction and upbringing in the Catholic Church. He began to analyze the hidden meanings, dissecting the mysteries of life, identity, reality, intention and purpose beginning with the religious faiths he was born into. Toledo’s current work and digital collages are tangled with powerful and ethereal themes, each framing these deeper questions of beingness that he started to question early on with his childhood in Madrid, Spain. With a childhood highly influenced by the imagery that surrounded him, and the presence of the church in his regular routine, Toledo was constantly surrounded and drawn to the detailing and beauty that religious and spiritual symbolism holds.

"Humanos / Humans"

Seeking understanding, Toledo’s creations envelop existence from the point of birth to our ultimate, inevitable demise, as seen through varying religious and spiritual universal thought. As a human race, we have felt this intense desire to uncover the answers that exist in our infinite state of questioning ever since the dawn of time. The combination of imagery in most of Toledo’s work is similar to what one would picture in a dream or distant memory. His richly intricate digital collages are built with a fascination for their content, heavy on the concepts of times past, present, and the eternal future. H.S.

"Invariancia / Invariance"

Invariant is something that does not change by applying a set of transformations. More formally an entity is invariant under a set of transformations if the transformed image of the entity is indistinguishable from the original entity.

"Mestizaje / Crossbreeding"

«I am interested in all of religious symbolism across the world over because I believe that these images have been charged with an energy and significance for many centuries. I try to mix the elements from all religions into my works to create a single aesthetic that will feel universally familiar.»

«It seems that we have developed this constant desire to predict and make reason out of our existence and what lies ahead. Unless this fate is something that is completely accepted, many of us have developed ways in which we feel comfort our minds or give us some sort of control. The existence of religion and cults, belief in a higher being, altars, traditional ceremony and ritual, psychics, astrology and try to lead us to something to try to make sense of it all. By looking to the cosmos, the supernatural, the ideas of god, eternity, heaven, hell superstition, and the synchronicity we all hope for guidance or reassurance in some way or another. We have constantly and almost continuously tried to understand our purpose, predict our fate, guide our destiny and conquer the unknown, trying to discover or alter destiny or whether or not there is somehow a predetermined courses of events or fixed natural order in the cosmos.»

"PsicoMagia / PsychoMagic"

«Each work is separate and begins differently, but most of them start with a vision. I really enjoy dealing with the subjects of life, death, time, science and violence. These are all recurring themes throughout my work…

I scan everything. From old bank notes to old books and illustrations, I will scan all of the details and textures in that I find to use in my work. I also visit bookshops and libraries and use photos taken in my travels. Since most of my work involves collage, and I try to salvage images from past times. I feel like these images would otherwise be forgotten.»
