On August 10 is the birthday of

Eugène Lageat, French photographer and editor of postcards born in 1862 in Trévou-Tréguignec, Brittany.
In 1891 he married Marie Felicite Seguin, heir and direct descendant of the wealthy family Seguin. No doubt thanks to this sudden wealth he had the ability to install a darkroom and become a photographer. In 1898, the year of his divorce, is installed in Chantenay near Nantes in the profession. He then returned to Trévou and created a workshop in his hometown in 1910. It became fashionable and families visiting his studio to portray that.

On August 11 is the birthday of

Ruben Vicente, freelance photographer from Lisbon, Portugal, born in 1981, with a keen interest in landscapes, wildlife, cultures and traditions.
«As a curious person that I am, for me it’s all about the experience and the aim to tell a story through my images, to let the viewer feel, dream, travel with me. On one side it’s the increasing speed of the heartbeat by being face to face with a wild animal in its habitat. It’s the hours walking on a bare and pristine landscape, feeling the connection of nature all around me. On the other side it’s the cultures and traditions I’m able to witness and the warm and diverse souls I meet along my journeys.
In the end it’s the challenge of approaching the unknown, the process of personal growth, the aim of feeling my surroundings, the dream of contributing to nature and cultural conservation.»

On August 12 is the birthday of

Gabriele Basilico, Italian photographer born in Milan in 1944. He defined himself as a measurer of space.
After studying architecture Basilico began his profession as a photographer devoting to landscape photography and more particularly to architectural photography. To give him international fame in 1982, it was a photographic report on the industrial areas of Milan (Ritratti di Fabbriche, Sugarco).
In the mid 80s he was part of the group of photographers committed by the French Government to document the transformation of the Transalpine landscape. With the celebrated Beirut 1991 Series he documented the war effects on the Lebanese capital. His last work was showed in December 2012, at the inauguration of new square Gae Aulenti in Milan: a series of photographs that portrayed the Porta Nuova Project from its inception.
Basilico worked mostly with a view camera and black and white film, and was awarded the Osella d'Oro at the 1996 Venice Biennale.
He died in 2013.

On August 13 is the birthday of

Lorna Simpson, African-American artist and photographer born in 1960, who made her name in the 1980s and 1990s with artworks such as Guarded Conditions and Square Deal.
She attended the High School of Art and Design and the School of Visual Arts in New York, and then the University of California, San Diego. Her earliest work was as a documentary street photographer, before moving her observations of race and society into her studio. Simpson began exploring ethnic divisions in the 1980s era of multiculturalism. Her most notable works combine words with photographs of anonymously cropped images of women and occasionally men. While the pictures may appear straightforward, the text will often confront the viewer with the underlying racism still found in American culture.

On August 14 is the birthday of

Paul Senn, Swiss photographer related with the Swiss Werkbund.
He was born in the Swiss town of Rothrist in 1901, where his father worked as head of the railway station. In 1908 he moved to Bern where he was academically formed.
In 1930 he began working as a reporter, being initially hired by Arnold Kübler for publication Zurich Illustrated. He also performed work for the Bernese Illustrated magazine, his two main customers in the 1930s.
In 1931 he traveled to Florence, and a year later started another trip that took him through France, Italy and Spain again where visit to Pau Casals, whom he had met in 1931 in Bern. Years later also he traveled to London, the Balkans, Athens, Istanbul and Bucharest.
Between 1939 and 1945, during World War II, he did his military service and continued to work as a photographer. In those years, along with Peter Surava, he conducted a series of socially engaged reporting. After the war he moved to America, where he photographed various Swiss colonies. Furthermore, it was also responsible for documenting the German reconstruction, remaining time in Munich.
He died in 1953.

Terrence "Terry" RichardsonAmerican fashion and portrait photographer born in 1965, who has shot advertising campaigns for Marc Jacobs, Aldo, Supreme, Sisley, Tom Ford, and Yves Saint Laurent among others. He has also done work for magazines such as Rolling Stone, GQ, Vogue, Vanity Fair, Harper's Bazaar, i-D, and Vice.
His mother reportedly gave Richardson his first snapshot camera in 1982. He used the camera to document his life and the punk rock scene in Ojai. In 1992, Richardson quit music and moved to the East Village neighborhood of New York City, where he began shooting scenes of young people partying and New York City's nightlife. It was in New York City that Richardson had his first "big break." His first published fashion photos appeared in Vibe in 1994.

On August 15 is the birthday of

Andres Serrano, American photographer and artist born in 1950, who has become famous through his photos of corpses and his use of feces and bodily fluids in his work, notably his controversial work "Piss Christ", a red-tinged photograph of a crucifix submerged in a glass container of what was purported to be the artist's own urine.
He is from a half Honduran, half Afro-Cuban background, and was raised a strict Roman Catholic. He studied from 1967 to 1969 at the Brooklyn Museum and Art School, yet is considered to be a self-taught photographer.
He worked as an assistant art director at an advertising firm, before creating his first works in 1983.
His work has been exhibited in diverse locations around the world including the Episcopal Cathedral of Saint John the Divine in New York City, World without end (2001), and a retrospective at the Barbican Arts Centre in London, Body and soul (2001).
His exhibitions have often inspired angry reactions. On October 5, 2007, his group of photographs called "The History of Sex" were on display and several were vandalized at an art gallery in Lund, Sweden by people who were believed to be part of a neo-Nazi group. On April 16, 2011, after two weeks of protests and a campaign of hate mail and abusive phone calls to an art gallery displaying his work, orchestrated by groups of French Catholic fundamentalists, approximately a thousand people marched through the streets of Avignon, to protest outside the gallery. On April 17, 2011, two of his works, Piss Christ and The Church, were vandalized. The gallery director plans to reopen the museum with the damaged works on show "so people can see what barbarians can do".

On August 16 is the birthday of

Ara Güler (Արա Գյուլեր), Turkish Armenian photojournalist born in 1928, nicknamed "the Eye of Istanbul" or "the Photographer of Istanbul". He is considered one of Turkey's few internationally known photographers.
In 1958, the American magazine company Time–Life opened a branch in Turkey, and Güler became its first correspondent for the Near East. Soon he received commissions from other international media, such as Paris Match, Stern and the London Sunday Times. After completing his military service in 1961, Güler was employed by the Turkish magazine Hayat as head of the photographic department.
About this time, he met Henri Cartier-Bresson and Marc Riboud, who recruited him for the Magnum Photos agency, which he joined. (He is not currently a member.) He was presented in the British 1961 Photography Yearbook. Also in that year, he was accepted as the only Turkish member to the American Society of Magazine Photographers (ASMP) (today called the American Society for Media Photographers). The Swiss magazine Camera honored him with a special issue.
