Xu Beihong [徐悲鸿], pintor chino nacido en Yixing en 1895.

On July 13 is the birthday of

Gustavo Torner, Spanish artist born in Cuenca in 1925. Together with Gerardo Rueda and Fernando Zobel form the "Cuenca School," which was one of the first initiatives in Spain to introduce new currents of modern art in the 1960s , being the foundation of the Museum of Spanish Abstract Art in Cuenca their main initiative.
In 1956 he made his first abstract work, "Rock." From here starts an artistic stage in the Informalist movement in which the concepts are expressed through the materials used, and especially the textures, with no figurative references. Since 1965 left his career as an engineer and is devoted entirely to his artistic career, alternating painting and sculpture with many other arts, such as graphic art, scenery, costumes for theater and opera, draperies expressions and more.

Shigeru Aoki (青木 繁), Japanese painter born in 1882, noted for his work in combining Japanese legends and religious subjects with the yōga (Western-style) art movement in late 19th- and early 20th-century Japanese painting.
Aoki was born to an ex-samurai class household in Kurume, in northern Kyūshū, where his father had been a retainer of the Arima clan daimyō of Kurume Domain. Although his family strongly disapproved of his interest in art, he left home in 1899 to pursue his studies in Tokyo, first with Koyama Shotaro, a pupil of the Italian foreign advisor Antonio Fontanesi, who had been hired by the Meiji government in the late 1870s to introduce western oil painting to Japan. From 1900 he became a pupil of Kuroda Seiki, then an instructor at the Tokyo Bijutsu Gakkō (present-day Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music). In the autumn of 1902, he travelled to Mount Myōgi in Gunma Prefecture and to Nagano Prefecture on a sketching excursion. After his return, he displayed some of his completed works at Kuroda's 8th Hakuba-kai Exhibition, where his use of the techniques of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood combined with themes from the Kojiki resulted in great critical acclaim.
In March 1911, he checked into a hospital in Fukuoka suffering from tuberculosis, where he died at the age of 28.

On July 14 is the birthday of

Gustav Klimt, Austrian Symbolist painter and one of the most conspicuous representatives of the modernist movement of the Viennese Secession, born in 1862 in Baumgarten. Klimt painted canvases and murals with a very ornate personal style, also expressed through crafts, such as those gathered in the Gallery of the Viennese Secession. Intellectually akin to certain romantic ideas, the female nude was for Klimt one of his most recurrent inspirations.
His works are endowed with an intense sensual energy, reflected particularly clearly in his numerous sketches in pencil, in a certain way inheritors of the tradition of erotic drawings by Rodin and Ingres. Klimt became a notable figure in Viennese high society and was associated in one way or another with the most remarkable intellectual circles of the time, at a time when Vienna was ceasing to be the world capital of art. He died in 1918.

Gustav Heinrich Eberlein, German sculptor, painter and writer born in 1847.
His parents lacked the money to provide him with formal artistic training, so he obtained instruction wherever possible, especially from the local goldsmith. In 1866, thanks to the patronage of a pastor who had recognized his talents, he was able to attend the Academy of Fine Arts in Nuremberg. In 1869, he went to Berlin on a scholarship. Three years later, another scholarship enabled him to study in Rome.
Upon his return to Berlin, he received significant support from Martin Gropius.
He was especially well known for his small figures and portrait sculpture and produced over 900 works. The majority of his larger bronze monuments were melted down during World War II. He died in 1926.

On July 15 is the birthday of

Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn, Dutch painter and etcher born in Leiden in 1606. Thought to be one of the greatest masters of baroque painting and engraving, being certainly the most important artist in the history of Holland. His contribution to painting matches what historians have called the Dutch Golden Age, considered  the crowning moment of their culture, science, commerce, power and political influence.
Having achieved success in youth, his later years were marked by personal tragedy and financial ruin. Among the greatest creative triumphs are the master Rembrandt portraits he did for his contemporaries, self-portraits, his illustrations of biblical scenes and fascinating prints. He died in 1669.

Reinhold Begas, German sculptor born in 1831 in Berlin.
He received his early education (1846-1851) studying under Christian Daniel Rauch and Ludwig Wilhelm Wichmann. During a period of study in Italy, from 1856 to 1858, he was influenced by Arnold Böcklin and Franz von Lenbach in the direction of a naturalistic style in sculpture. This tendency was marked in the group Borussia, executed for the facade of the exchange in Berlin, which first brought him into general notice.
In 1861 Begas was appointed professor at the art school at Weimar, but retained the appointment only a few months. That he was chosen, after competition, to execute the statue of Friedrich Schiller for the Gendarmenmarkt in Berlin, was a high tribute to the fame he had already acquired, and the result, one of the finest statues in the German metropolis, entirely justified his selection. Since the year 1870, Begas dominated the plastic art in the Kingdom of Prussia, but especially in Berlin. He died in 1911.

On July 16 is the birthday of

Andrea del Sarto, Italian Mannerist painter born in Florence in 1486. Due to his refined style was dubbed "Andrea senza errori '('Andrea without errors'). At seven starts as an apprentice to a goldsmith, and later passed to the studio of the painter Gian Barile who seeing his great progress, sent him to the most prestigious workshop of Piero di Cosimo.
In 1508 his first works are inspired directly from the artists that were more familiar to him and his friend Francesco Franciabigio: Fra Bartolomeo and Mariotto Albertinelli, together with the study of Raphael Sanzio.
He devoted himself to portrait sporadically; this was a gender far from the provisions of Andrea, more prone to complex articulation of figuration. He died in 1531.

Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot, French landscape and portrait painter as well as a printmaker in etching born in 1796.
Corot received a scholarship to study at the Lycée Pierre-Corneille in Rouen, but left after having scholastic difficulties and entered a boarding school.
With his parents' support, Corot followed the well-established pattern of French painters who went to Italy to study the masters of the Italian Renaissance and to draw the crumbling monuments of Roman antiquity.
In later life, Corot's studio was filled with students, models, friends, collectors, and dealers who came and went under the tolerant eye of the master.
Corot is a pivotal figure in landscape painting. His work simultaneously references the Neo-Classical tradition and anticipates the plein-air innovations of Impressionism. Of him Claude Monet exclaimed in 1897, "There is only one master here - Corot. We are nothing compared to him, nothing."
He died in 1875.

On July 17 is the birthday of

Juan Bernal Ponce, architect, artist and professor of Chilean origin born in Valparaíso in 1938, who spent half his life in Costa Rica.
He went to study at the School of Fine Arts in Viña del Mar in 1954. In 1957 he entered the School of Architecture of the University of Chile, and in 1960 began to study architecture at the University of Chile in Santiago reaching titrated in 1965. He was part of Workshop 99 (Studio 99), of the Catholic University of Santiago of Chile, whose members were known for their spirit of experimentation, exploration of alternative media, and investigating new techniques.
He held the title of professor (with architect Edgar Brenes) at the School of Architecture at the University of Costa Rica until shortly before his death in 2006.

Hippolyte De La Roche, commonly known as Paul Delaroche, French painter born in 1797. He was trained by Antoine-Jean, Baron Gros, who was painting life-size historical subjects and had many students.
The first Delaroche picture exhibited was the large Jehosheba saving Joash (1822). This exhibition led to his acquaintance with Théodore Géricault and Eugène Delacroix, with whom he formed the core of a large group of Parisian historical painters. He visited Italy in 1838 and 1843, when his father-in-law, Horace Vernet, was director of the French Academy in Rome. In 1845, he was elected into the National Academy of Design, New York, as an Honorary Academician.
His subjects were painted with a firm, solid, smooth surface, which gave an appearance of the highest finish.
He died in 1856.

On July 18 is the birthday of

Bernd Fasching, Austrian painter and sculptor born in 1955 who lives and works in Vienna.
A constant and recurring element in the work of Fasching is the creation of his works surrounded by visitors and audience. There were 7 periods between 1987 and 2006 when, under the title "12 Tage 12 Nächte (12 days 12 nights)", Fasching lived and worked in various galleries around the world, which could be observed and was always open to discussion. During this that did not leave his workplace. He created 12 works inspired by conversations with his visitors in the working sessions. For each of the seven sessions a soundtrack that was played in each gallery during the 288 hours of the project was composed.
His sculpture "Hammer of Thor", created in 1990 in the hall of the Austrian Museum of Applied Arts, the eyes of the visitor appears before inviting them to follow the creative process.

Giacomo Balla, Italian art teacher and participated later in Futurism born in 1871.
Balla was the son of a photographer and as a child he studied music. He moved to Rome in 1895.
For several years he worked in Rome as an illustrator, a caricaturist, and also did portraiture. In 1899, his work was shown at the Venice Biennale, and in the ensuing years his art was on display at major Italian exhibitions in Rome and Venice.
Around 1902, he taught Divisionist techniques to Umberto Boccioni and Gino Severini. Influenced by Filippo Tommaso Marinetti, he adopted the Futurism style, creating a pictorial depiction of light, movement and speed. He was signatory to the Futurist Manifesto in 1910.
He died in 1958.

Today, July 19, is the birthday of

Xu Beihong (徐悲鸿), Chinese painter born in Yixing in 1895. Known primarily for his shuimohua (Chinese ink paintings) of horses and birds, and for being one of the first Chinese artists to articulate the need for artistic expressions that reflect the China new and modern at the beginning of 20th century.
He is also recognized as one of the first to create monumental oil paintings with epic Chinese themes, demonstrated his great skill in an essential Western art technique.
His art studies were made in Japan, China and Paris, in the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux-Arts, where he studied drawing and oil painting.
In 1933, Xu organized an exhibition of modern Chinese painting that toured France, Germany, Belgium, Italy and the Soviet Union. He died in 1953.

Han Sai Por, Singaporean sculptor born in 1943. A graduate of the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA), East Ham College of Art, Wolverhampton College of Art and Lincoln University, New Zealand, she worked as a teacher and later as a part-time lecturer at NAFA, the LASALLE-SIA College of the Arts, and the National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University, before becoming a full-time artist in 1997.
Han has participated in exhibitions locally and abroad, including events in China, Denmark, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand and South Korea. Her first solo exhibition, entitled Four Dimensions, was held at the National Museum Art Gallery in 1993.
Han is probably best known for her stone sculptures with organic forms.
